So there was a Craigslist post earlier by Cash Rewards, and I decided to follow up on it.

Cool?
Non-wankel fanboi just trying to sell an RX-8...no need to shame him.
![]() 01/20/2015 at 16:45 |

People like that really shouldn't be owning rotary-engined cars in the first place.
![]() 01/20/2015 at 16:45 |

I'd actually be curious to see how many RX8 owners actually know their cars have a rotary

dur dur, it goes fast when I push the foot button, dur.

I'm amazed the seals haven't failed yet.
![]() 01/20/2015 at 16:54 |

So many XC70 owners don't know they have an odd number of cylinders.
![]() 01/20/2015 at 16:55 |

Or people claiming their car has a V4 engine.
![]() 01/20/2015 at 16:57 |
|
just because he isn't a fanboi doesn't give him the right to claim that a 1.3 rotary engine is considered as a v6
![]() 01/20/2015 at 16:57 |
|
i bet they have
![]() 01/20/2015 at 16:57 |
|
Except it has as much torque as my Sonata, so not exactly what many would consider fast...
![]() 01/20/2015 at 16:58 |

This is gold!
![]() 01/20/2015 at 17:00 |

I don't think any roadgoing car currently has one .
![]() 01/20/2015 at 17:00 |
|
That was my thought. I'd love to see how low on oil it is. I understand those things need to be regularly topped off
![]() 01/20/2015 at 17:01 |

Nope. But so many people call their I4s V4s, it drives me nuts.
![]() 01/20/2015 at 17:04 |

Unless its a Saab Sonnet or a Honda motorcycle.
![]() 01/20/2015 at 17:05 |

There's a huge gap between not being a fanboi and having a fundamental understanding of what's under the hood and the critical maintenence it needs. Especially when you're selling your 0 cylinder car on Craigslist and saying it has 6.
![]() 01/20/2015 at 17:07 |

Unless you have the turbo, which has a bunch..
![]() 01/20/2015 at 17:07 |

I bet you could run those things off 2 stroke gas/oil. lolololol
![]() 01/20/2015 at 17:07 |

Or a Porsche 919 or a few Fords from 1962-81 or some made by ZAZ.
![]() 01/20/2015 at 17:11 |

It's preferred - burns cleaner, and makes the spark plugs and catalysts last much longer.
![]() 01/20/2015 at 17:16 |
|
True, the Ford Taunus is one. Forgot about that.
![]() 01/20/2015 at 17:19 |

Do a craigslist car search for V4. It's sad what turns up.
![]() 01/20/2015 at 17:37 |
|
He just doesn't know any better...most people don't.
It's not like he's selling a built race car and calling it a V6, that would be different. It's obviously just some dude trying to flip an RX-8, cut him a break.
![]() 01/20/2015 at 17:41 |
|
Not necessarily. If you go out on the street and ask 10 people how many cylinders an RX-8 has, how many people do you think would answer that question correctly?
The internal workings of a wankel motor is not something most drivers know anything about, whereas any Mazda enthusiast would probably talk your ear off about it.
![]() 01/20/2015 at 17:46 |

well he is aware of it being a rotary and appears to have some knowledge of apex seals so surely he should know a v6 is completely different, either way its a huge time waste for someone genuinely interested in a v6 converted rx8
![]() 01/20/2015 at 17:50 |

You're probably right, I'm just thinking to those Steve lehto articles and misrepresenting what your have. Plus the"passed emissions so there's nothing wrong with it" makes me think that, maybe, somethings wrong with it. Left a poor taste of potentially blown apex seals, an engine acting funny and getting ready to turn into a paperweight, and a seller looking to dump it quick.
![]() 01/20/2015 at 18:02 |
|
what leads you to believe that he has knowledge of apex seals?
![]() 01/21/2015 at 00:29 |
|
Fast. Naturally aspirated rotary. Pick one.
![]() 01/21/2015 at 00:31 |

A rotary owner claiming their "engine is as reliable as a V6" when selling it is as dishonest as a Jaguar owner claiming their "Lucas electronics are as reliable as Bosch" when selling it.
